Alison is the founding principal of Alison Rooney Communications, for which she writes, edits, and manages projects for clients in a range of industries. Alison struck out on her own in 2001, after seven years as staff writer and editor at two of Philadelphia’s most prestigious cultural organizations. She quickly built a loyal client base of museums, publishers, universities, for-profit and non-profit firms, and individuals with diverse communications needs.

A New England native, Alison was educated at Middlebury College and Oxford University and holds a B.A. in English literature. In 1994 she came to Philadelphia to train as an editor of scholarly illustrated books at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and in 1999 she went on to build the Museum’s Editorial & Graphic Design department. As staff writer and press officer at the Franklin Institute Science Museum, Alison cultivated relationships with regional and national journalists and developed promotional materials focusing on science, education, and technology.

In 2011–12 and 2013–14 Alison served as interim publications manager for Haverford College, handling the responsibilities of a full-time position on a consulting basis while continuing to serve her other clients. Her office is located just outside Philadelphia in Merchantville, New Jersey.
